Israelis have assembled across the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-led assault on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations advanced in Egypt over a resolution to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The assault saw in excess of 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others taken back to Gaza as hostages. It was the uniquely most lethal day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel answered by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are seen as reliable by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"The violent enemies have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the leader stated on that day.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will never again create a risk to Israel".

Remembrance Events Across Israel

The national leadership postponed state commemorations until mid-October - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still occurred around the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the families of people who died in the Hamas incident was held in the coastal city. Organized by the affected families, it was televised across Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was observed around the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas representatives met in the Egyptian tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of indirect talks to discuss the provisions of the agreement.

A prominent delegate familiar with the negotiations revealed that an late session of indirect talks commenced at 7 PM local time.

The official stated the earlier meeting finished without concrete outcomes, due to conflicting views over the proposed Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not restart combat after the opening period of the deal.

He added that the talks are "challenging and have not yet deliver any real breakthrough," but noted that facilitators are working hard to close the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Key Matters in Negotiations

  • A lasting truce
  • The swap of the hostages still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The removal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance distribution
  • Future governance of the area

Civilian Reaction

In Tel Aviv's public square that day, 29-year-old Hagar - whose family member lived through the assault on the gathering, where many attendees were murdered and many more were taken hostage by Hamas militants - explained: "No place feels like home now and until all the hostages are released not a single person will feel safe."

"Once we see everybody home once more, we can breathe once more. Then we can begin to recover," she concluded.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem, people gathered to demonstrate their support for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel says 48 stay in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be living.

Activist one woman stated: "We need do whatever arrangement required for the captives to be released. But we sincerely need promises that we will be secure."

Research now consistently show that approximately seventy percent of the population want the hostilities to conclude in return for the release of the hostages.

Palestinian Situation

At the location of the music event, those paying respects assembled to honor the dead.

From the site, the sound of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where local people reported the heavy Israeli shelling continued.

In Gaza City, attacks were documented in the morning of that day in the western Tal al-Hawa, area and locality areas and in the east side neighbourhood of the community, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"Once the dusk arrives, the fear comes with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, described.

"We are afraid of the attacks. During nighttime we are sleeping together, holding each other, particularly my little child who puts his face on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we look at the news to see developments. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the fighting will return to us."

Humanitarian Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City reported it had accepted the remains of half dozen people by the daytime, including three killed in an Israeli bombing in the south part area.

A different healthcare center in the southern urban center of Khan Younis reported two more victims had been transported. An individual was killed by Israeli forces while attempting to get assistance to the south region, medics reported.

The territory's health ministry reported a significant number of the {territ
