The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
