The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Might Finish... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the acclaimed program coming to an end—and Season 2 officially in the works—the writers' room reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Fan Response

Anyone might to get swayed by the constant speculation and online debates about Pluribus. He is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by online forums.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Will the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff are not listening by fan response, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… in a way.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” he states. “but we are always ready to abandon a decent plan for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
