That Grisly Cartoon Film Ending That Stays With Viewers
Out of every adult-oriented animated films I have personally viewed, no other has lingered in my mind quite like the fear-filled finale of a graphically gory as well as overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, this Spain-based filmmaker developed a grim, melancholy , often savage universe that included some tiny , forlorn twinges of optimism.
Although The Unicorn Wars seems like it came from a drive to push animation even more, the director stated that it was rather an effort to convey a global, cross-cultural theme regarding “the mutual source of every conflict.”
That idea is communicated via a group of vividly colored bears , obviously modeled after a well-known series of lovable figures.
Maturing in a culture built around militarism and the defense industry, many of these animals are fixated on exterminating the mythical beasts, due to a holy book that claims them they previously were kings of the forest, until these creatures forced them out.
A few did not entirely fallen for the brainwashing, and would rather sample narcotics and fornicate in the forest.
Unlike their friendly equivalents, these colorful critters display sexual organs , clear libidos.
For a particular particularly cruel, pessimistic creature, the character Bluey, the war against the unicorns transforms into a path to power — and particularly to dominance above his more tender, nicer brother the bear Tubby.
The character is a bully , an obvious antisocial figure , and while terror overcomes his group and claims his teammates sequentially, he seizes more and more influence for himself, via progressively gory, damaging approaches.
Simultaneously, the unicorns are experiencing their own terror, in the form of a growing, destructive monster in their woods.
“Initially, it appears as a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker said. “But then it turns into a more serious and sad movie. And by the end, it transforms into a horror film.”
Unicorn Wars starts out feeling a bit like among the whimsical features from a renowned filmmaker, that uncover a wicked pleasure in allowing drawn beings swear, shoot each other, or engage sexually.
Afterward it evolves into more akin to a bleaker movie from that creator, with increasingly explicit brutality and a noticeable relation to the real horror of conflict.
In the finale, it is a complete Grand Guignol massacre.
The terror that turns this an ideal spooky-season viewing begins a lot earlier than one might expect.
The Unicorn Wars is one for the most dedicated fans of gore, for enthusiasts of graphic films who desire to watch something they have not watched previously, and are able to withstand a plot that offers no restraint.
See it in a dimly lit space without any distractions, and that ending will burrow deep within you and stay with you.
