John Stones Pushed forward when in possession, something he's known for before. At times lacked urgency in possession and the experiment abandoned at half-time. 6

The tall defender A nuisance at set pieces, as always, could serve as a replacement to his teammate at the back instead of alongside him. A careless ball after the break nearly resulted in the first goal for the visitors. Six

Nico O’Reilly Another composed showing from the 20-year-old following his debut against Serbia. A teammate was unable to take the opportunity from a clever backheel behind their defense. The role is firmly his already. 7/10

The newcomer A debut start in an England shirt. Somewhat careless in possession but his inswinging corners were a threat. An effective tempo-setter for the coach to call upon against defensive opponents. Booked after a reckless foul. 6/10

The midfielder Crosses from dead balls and free-kicks created chances. Had freedom to roam in left midfield but was in an offside position as the pass came in front of goal. Given a well-earned break on the hour mark. 6/10

The star midfielder Played in a forward position on the right while also did plenty of the hard yards. Showed glimpses of brilliance and mishit a shot over. Replaced late on by Rogers, a fellow player, after receiving a caution. 7

The winger Was presented with the team's clearest opportunity before halftime, his effort smartly stopped by the opposing goalkeeper. As a teammate staying deep, it fell to him to offer an outlet out wide but his crosses from the touchline were hit and miss. Replaced late in the match. 6

The captain The difference-maker scoring seventy-seventh and seventy-eighth goals in an England shirt. The opener a classic poacher’s finish and the second a superb finish with his head having drifted away from his marker. Now 32, he continues to improve and the side are strong contenders in future competitions with him leading the line. Eight

The attacker Had difficulty to make an impact out wide. Was presented with a presentable chance when set up from a teammate but Strakosha made the save. Rashford had a greater effect in his place. 5/10
