Paceman Atkinson Adds to the English team's Fitness Concerns.

'Major setback' for England after Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the ground during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his left leg post-delivery that he bowled at the MCG.

The touring camp reported the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and required time off the field to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the series beginning on 4 January starts on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has previously lost key quicks Mark Wood due to knee trouble and another paceman because of a side injury during this series.

A replacement bowler was added to the party as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs while batting among just a trio of English batsmen to get into double digits.

Post a single over late on the first day, he came back for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Yet, towards the conclusion of the fifth over, he delivered a slower ball to Travis Head and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission the Adelaide game.
