England to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground
The England national team will initiate their Euro 2028 adventure at the Etihad Stadium, provided that they attain the relatively straightforward qualification for a competition staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.
Manchester City’s home ground has not hosted an England men’s fixture since eight years ago, when Turkey were beaten 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is almost certain to welcome the national team for their inaugural game on a Saturday in June 2028.
The team are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, if they top the preliminary round, their round of 16 match would take place at St James’ Park. Placing second would mean commencing the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Championship Launch and Protest
The tournament was unveiled at an gathering in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from Uefa and the host football associations were barracked as they entered the site by around fifty activists, who called for Israel to be kicked out from global football because of the conflict in Gaza.
Placards were raised with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Championship Timeline
The first match of Euro 2028 will be played at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a match that will include the Dragons if they make it.
The national stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the final, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5:00 PM.
It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for European club finals from the following campaign, will cater to families and help engage a wider spectrum of audiences.
Participating Countries
The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their first game at the Dublin Arena and the Scottish team would play similarly at Hampden Park.
All four host countries’ teams will take part in the preliminary stage; two automatic spots will be reserved for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through that route.
Venues and Elimination Phase
Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the nine tournament locations. Every stadium will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches played at every host’s main arena.
The qualification draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a venue city last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.
