Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be raised about his future after a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received significant support from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points obviously but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them after this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period like this with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to the top, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
