A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.

Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the onset of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
